Marie has practiced architecture in Europe, New York and Santa Fe, NM.   Her architecture work has ranged from small historic renovations, to residential, educational, government, and corporate, and then back to the land with regenerative design.  With an eye to sustainable and innovative uses of materials and approaches to planning, how we can live responsibly on this planet has always been her goal.

Louise Harpman, Professor of Architecture, Urban Design, and Sustainability New York University Gallatin School of Individualized Study Principal, Louise Harpman__PROJECTS Louise Harpman is an academic and architect whose work includes a broad portfolio of built projects, design prototypes, teaching, writing, and artistic activism. Louise is a full Professor with tenure at New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study. Before joining the faculty at NYU, she held the position of Associate Dean at the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture (from 2003- 2010). Previously, she was a Critic at the Yale School of Architecture where she served as Studio Director for the first year Building Project, Coordinator for the third semester core studio, and as Member and Chair of the Admissions Committee (1995-2003). Louise is the founder and principal of her own firm,  Louise Harpman__PROJECTS . She is the director of the zeroMicro™ applied research consortium, focusing on net zero energy buildings and micro-dwellings through which she holds trademarks in related zeromicro™ design applications. Before founding PROJECTS, Louise was a principal for 20 years in the design firm Specht Harpman, which she founded with Yale classmate Scott Specht. Specht Harpman was recognized in Wallpaper* magazine’s Architects’ Directory as one of the “top 50 up and coming architectural practices from around the world.” The firm received multiple Honor Awards from the American Institute of Architects and was recognized in the Emerging Voices program of the Architectural League of New York.  Louise’s books include Coffee Lids: Peel, Pinch, Pucker, Puncture (Princeton Architectural Press, 2018) with Scott Specht and Global Design: Elsewhere Envisioned (Prestel, 2014) with Peder Anker and Mitchell Joachim.
